Bombay Beach @ The Salton Sea (HWY 111)

Photobucket

We drove out last night, but it's so dark we didn't see much. All we could hear as we walked along the beach was the crushing of fish skeletons and birds circling overhead. Saw our first shooting star. Pretty neat seeing one blaze across the sky in the middle of nowhere. There must be factories lining Hwy 111 because for about a mile our senses were bombarded with the smells of peppermint, cake mix, and salsa. I can't even describe to you how overwhelming these smells were for a good mile of road. Very weird.

We ventured out there again this morning. The heat was quite unbearable. 115 degrees I believe. We could only stand to be outside of the car for 15 minutes at most. And the overwhelming stench of dead fish lining the shore didn't help, but experiencing the Salton Sea is a must. Abandoned homes. Ghost children riding their bikes down the center of town. A town that consisted of 18 residents and 3 streets. You cannot take a bad picture. Just make sure you have room on your memory card. We took about 300 photos just at Bombay Beach. Wait until you see our photos from Salvation Mountain.

Go if you haven't, but maybe don't go in the middle of July.

Atomic Records (3812 W. Magnolia Blvd.)

I love this little Burbank record shop more than the Bob's Big Boy that usually follows an outing to Atomic records. Wish they were opened later so I could stop in on a weekday, but getting out to Burbank after work isn't what you want to do after a day in the tomb. They've been around since 1996 and if they ever close down I'll fucking kill myself. I once found 3 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm for $7 each!

PhotobucketIf you get lost... just follow the power lines.

Bob's Big Boy (4211 W. Riverside Dr.)

Photobucket
I get the strangest feeling I'm being judged every time I go into a Bob's. Just me?

I packed up my laptop for a late night trip to Bob's. I do my best thinking around greasy foods. Ran into a friend I hadn't seen in awhile and probably will not see ever again. I was reminded of a night we spent in Malibu after a film shoot. We came across a deer carcass and a man with a hook in the middle of the road while listening to the Halloween soundtrack (The man with the hook had just happened to have hit the deer with his car). But who knew Malibu was so scary at night.

Space Invader (Silverlake Blvd.)

On the way home from Spaceland we spotted a Space Invader on the side of a building...

Took home a few souvenirs. Hope Mr. Invader won't mind.
